Clients and contractors have general health and safety responsibilities to protect each other, their workforce and anyone else. In any client/contractor relationship, there must be co-operation and co-ordination between all the parties involved, to ensure the health and safety of all at the workplace and anyone else likely to be affected. Liaison arrangements must be set up with all parties, e.g. regular meetings or briefings. Clients and Contractors must consult their employees on health and safety matters through Safety Representatives appointed by the Trade Unions. Trade unions have an important role to play and can provide expertise to help in the area of health and safety.

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and the HSE strongly promote the EU H&S Week, aimed at organisations and individuals at local, national and European levels, including: employers, managers, supervisors, workers, trade unions and trade union safety representatives, safety and health institutions, OSH professionals and practitioners, safety and health training providers and the education community and Occupational Safety and Health prevention and insurance service.'
